USNA Minority Association Mission

Founded in October 2017, established as SIG March 2018

 

i. Attract & Recruit Future Leaders: Support USNA Pre-Admissions programs to include STEM and Summer Seminar programs, increase minority Blue & Gold Officers, support USNA’s diversity recruiting efforts and USNA Chief Diversity Officer, provide increased exposure to underserved recruiting markets, strengthen the diversity of individuals applying for the Academy.

ii. Retain Midshipmen and help improve graduation rate through Mentoring: Assist in mentoring and encouraging Midshipmen and Naval Academy Preparatory School Midshipmen Candidates to successfully complete the course of study and serve with distinction the Fleet. Support USNA academic initiatives and Midshipmen Clubs (ECAs).

iii. Provide a network: Establish an effective professional network for Midshipmen and graduates, provide increased availability of minority sponsors in the Greater Annapolis area, provide additional social outlet for minority and other midshipmen via USNAMA tailgates at home football games, provide support to Midshipmen Minority Organizations. Provide mentoring and career guidance to graduates in the Fleet/Marine Corps and post naval service career advice.

iv. Outreach: Support and help coordinate USNA awareness and involvement in nationally recognized events and issues impacting applicable minority communities. Support the identification and recruitment of minority candidates, promote STEM and Summer Seminar programs. Recommend speakers for USNA outreach events. Interface with other Service Academy Alumni groups, NNOA, ANSO and other organizations that focus on the minority community.

v. Philanthropy: Provide scholarships for minority STEM and Summer Seminar candidates who cannot afford tuition, support funding and travel for the Brigade ECAs and USNA minority affinity groups. Support unfunded requests. Expand philanthropic support for the USNA Alumni Association.
